Repsol Honda star Marc Marquez is a step closer to a fourth MotoGP world title after claiming pole position for the Australian grand prix on Phillip Island.
The Spaniard scored his 44th MotoGP pole with his last lap in a thrilling qualifying session on Saturday in which his main championship rival, Ducati Team's Andrea Dovizioso, struggled to 11th place on the starting grid.
Top local hope Jack Miller will start on the second row on Sunday after qualifying fifth on his Marc VDS Honda - equalling the career-best MotoGP start he achieved at Phillip Island in 2016.
